Reno, Nev. - University of Nevada head baseball coach Gary Powers has announced the signing of two high school seniors to National Letters of Intent to play for the Wolf Pack in 2008.  Shortstop Michael Blazek and utility player Nick Leid have chosen to play their collegiate careers for the Pack.

Blazek, a 6’1” 180-pound shortstop played his prep baseball at Arbor View High School in Las Vegas.  A four-year letterwinner he earned first-team All-Sunset Division and second-team All-State honors in 2006 as a pitcher.  He helped lead AVHS to a regional playoff appearance and 20 win season it is first year of baseball.  This past year he was named to the Area Code team and Cardinal Scout team.  Offensively he hit .456 and was 6-1 on the mound as a junior.

Leid earned two letters playing for Richland High School in Richland, Wash.  The 6’0” 180-pound utility player was a preseason all-conference, first-team All-Big Nine Conference, and first-team all-area selection as a junior.  His junior year he hit .391 with 22 RBI and a Big Nine Conference leading six home runs.  This past summer he belted five home runs and hit a team high .424 for the Twin City Titans.

“Mike and Nick are a great start to the early recruiting period but we plan on announcing additional signees before it ends,” said Powers.  “Both are quality athletes that add tremendously to the type of player we are recruiting.  Their versatility gives them opportunities to play several positions on the field.”
