RENO, Nev. Junior guard Marcelus Kemp scored 18 points and senior forward Nick Fazekas added 11 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Nevada men’s basketball team past Chico State in a 93-77 exhibition victory Tuesday night at Lawlor Events Center.

 

Chico State made five of its first seven three-point attempts and led by as many as six points early in the first half. After Chico State’s Andy Bocian knocked down a trey to give the Wildcats a 24-23 lead with 10:17 to play, Nevada put together a 20-2 run and never trailed again. The Wolf Pack led 55-38 at halftime.

 

In the second half, Nevada led by as many as 30 points en route to the 93-77 victory.

 

A total of four Wolf Pack players scored in double figures led by Kemp, who went 7-of-11 from the field. Senior forward Denis Ikovlev added 13 points, including a trio of three-pointers, while senior guard Kyle Shiloh made four treys for a total of 12 points.

 

Junior guard Ramon Sessions led the team with nine assists, while sophomore guard Lyndale Burleson dished out five. Fazekas blocked five shots in the game and sophomore forward David Ellis added three blocks, while Shiloh had three steals.

 

Five Nevada players made their Wolf Pack collegiate debuts in the game, including true freshmen Brandon Fields, Tyrone Hanson, Matt LaGrone and JaVale McGee and redshirt freshman Richie Phillips.

 

Justin Argenal led Chico State in scoring with 18 points.

 

The Wolf Pack opens the regular season on Friday night, playing host to Alaska-Anchorage at 7:05 p.m. at Lawlor Events Center.
