Reno, Nev. - University of Nevada head baseball coach Gary Powers has announced the signing of Cosumnes River College pitcher Stephen Bautista to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Wolf Pack in 2008. Bautista is the eighth recruit signed by the Pack baseball staff during the early signing period.
Bautista, a 6’3” right-handed pitcher currently attends Cosumnes River College in Sacramento, Calif. but played his prep baseball at Elk Grove High School. As a freshman last season he appeared in 17 games earning starts in 14 where he posted a 6-3 record with a 3.12 ERA in 66.1 innings on the mound. He recorded 59 strikeouts and walked just 32.
"Stephen is another of the quality athletes we have signed during the early period,” said Powers. “He will have two years of junior college experience by the time he gets to campus which will be a big plus for us since the other seven recruits were high school players. I feel my staff did a great job and we have signed a great class during the early period. We may add an addition player or two during the early period but are mostly finished until the spring.”
