Austin, Texas   The University of Nevada finished in second place behind TCU and ahead of UTEP in the rifle match in Austin, Texas last weekend.  This was the second time the Pack finished second to TCU in the third meeting between the schools.  TCU’s aggregate score was 4650 and the Pack finished with a 4588.

Senior Mike Tanoue led the Pack with a score of 590 in air rifle and 571 in small bore.  His 590 in air rifle was the second highest among all individuals at the tournament.  Junior Eric Okamoto and sophomore Sarah Smith gave strong performances in air rifle with scores of 586 and 583 respectively.

In air rifle, the Pack finished with a score of 2338 and was only 11 behind TCU’s 2349.  However, the Pack didn’t shoot as well in the small bore and finished behind both TCU and UTEP.

After a long delay at the airport, the team didn’t arrive to the hotel in Austin, Texas, until about 1:00 a.m. on the day of the small bore shoot.  Coach Fred Harvey says fatigue could have affected the Pack’s small bore performance.

The Pack’s next match at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. on Nov. 10-12.
