Final Stats

RENO, Nev. - Nevada (12-20) dropped two tough, one-run games Saturday and will play Utah Valley State College in the consolation game of their own tournament here at Idlewild Park Sunday at noon. McNeese State will face Pacific at 10 am for the championship.

The Pack (12-20) lost to McNeese State, 7-6, and then dropped a 2-1 contest to Pacific in one semi-final game for the right to play McNeese in the title game Sunday. Pacific (18-14) beat Utah Valley State College 11-2 in Saturday's first game and McNeese State (19-24) prevailed 5-2 over Utah Valley State (8-22-1) in the other semi-final as the last contest of the day.

Nevada fell behind early to the Cowgirls, 5-0 after one inning, but battled back with one in the first before the Cowgirls went up 7-3 after two innings. Nevada added three in third but was blanked the rest of the way.

Jiliane Hartfiel hit her seventh home run of the year, setting a single-season school mark, and Lindsey Hall and Kari Stockstill added round trippers for the Pack. Candice Rainwater was 2-4 with an RBI, Stockstill was 2-4 with two RBI and Kaycee Wilcks went 2-3 for Nevada. Robyn Ford-Feitz pitched one-third of an inning in allowing five runs, four of them earned, and took the loss (1-1). Jana Jones (5-7) picked up the win for McNeese State.

 
 

Courtney Parks had a three-run home run and Jones was 2-3 with two RBI to lead the Cowgirls.

In Nevada's second game, the first semi-final, Nevada gave up single runs in the second and third and made a comeback with a run of their own in the fifth but couldn't overtake the Tigers, losing 2-1. Amanda Wise was 3-4 with an RBI and Rainwater was 2-3 while Tiffany Hoeft allowed just two runs and eight hits in six innings of work for Nevada.

Alyce Jorgensen picked up the win (7-6) and the Tigers had help from Jennifer Curtier, who was 2-3 with an RBI, and Lizzie Hagen, who went 1-3 with a solo home run to lead Pacific.

Admission to Nevada softball at Idlewild Park is free.
