RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada has signed Kailua, Hawai`i standout Heather Horn to a National Letter-of-Intent, Head Rifle Coach Fred Harvey announced today.
Horn was the silver medalist at the 2005 championships after capturing the title as a sophomore in 2004. A two-time, first-team all-state selection, she earned second-team all-state honors as a freshman.
She was part of Punahou High School's 2005 state championship team and Punahou also won the national air rifle scholastic title in 2005. Horn was part of the National Advanced Junior Shooting Camp offered to the 24 top juniors in the nation and was ranked 21st in the country among juniors.
Horn won the 2005 Hawai`i National Rifle Association (NRA) Junior 3 Position Precision Air Rifle Sectional and earned a slot at the 2005 Junior Olympic Sporter Air Rifle National Championships. She also placed 10th at this year's Women's Precision Air Rifle at the Daisy Invitational Air Gun Championships.
Horn is an honor student and earned an "A+" in animation at the UCLA Arts Camp in the summer of 2004 and earned an "A" in television news at the UCLA Arts Camp in the summer of 2005. She is Gold Award winner in Girl Scouts, the highest honor given in girl scouting, and is active in the NRA and other clubs.
