Nevada track and field freshman Emily Costello has been named Nevada student-athlete of the week. In last weekend’s Boise State Team Challenge, Costello set personal records in the 60 and 200 meter races.
The Folsom, Calif. native started the day off with a personal record of 7.64 in the 60m preliminary, topping her heat. The time moved her into seventh all-time at Nevada. In the 60m final, Costello ran a time of 7.65 to win the event. The preliminary time of 7.64 was also good for ninth in the Mountain West this year.
Costello was not done yet; she also ran in the 200m. Her time of 24.53 put her in second in the event, and move to sixth all-time at Nevada. The time was the 11th best in the Mountain West so far this year.
The track and field team will be back in action next Thursday for the Mountain West Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M.
