After helping the Nevada women’s basketball team to a sweep of Air Force last week and securing the No. 5 seed in this week’s Air Force Reserve Mountain West Championship, senior Nia Alexander has been named the Wolf Pack Student-Athlete of the Week.
Alexander aided the Wolf Pack to its fifth win in a row after taking two games from the Falcons on the road last week to close the regular season, winning 59-56 in game one and 69-58 in game two. With those two victories Nevada grabbed the fifth seed in the Mountain West Championship, its highest seeding in the conference tournament since the 2013-14 season, and a first round bye, also something that has not happened since 2013-14.
The Washington native played a huge role in helping the Wolf Pack to those two wins last week as she averaged 17.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. In game one she was nearly flawless, hitting 9-of-13 from the field en route to tying her career-high of 20 points to lead the Pack. Her 20 points tied her career high from her time at San Francisco, but also was the most points she has scored in a Nevada uniform. She followed that up with 14 points in the second game and again had a strong shooting performance. Between the two games she shot 62.5 for the week and was perfect from the free throw line. She added nine rebounds, seven of which came in game two, three steals, a block and five steals.
