Justin Whitehouse joined the Nevada Athletics staff as Assistant Athletic Director, Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer in January 2023.

Whitehouse, a 1998 Nevada graduate, returns to Reno after spending 22 years with the Oakland Athletics, most recently serving as an athletic trainer in the organization’s farm system. He will lead a sports medicine team of 12 full-time athletic trainers, which is tasked with oversight of primary medical and treatment needs for the well-being of Nevada’s student-athletes.

He also serves as the primary athletic trainer for Nevada Swimming & Diving.

Over his 22 seasons with the Oakland A's, Whitehouse served as the organization's Minor League Athletic Trainer. In that role, he worked with the A's various farm teams at all levels of MiLB: the High-A Visalia Oaks (2001-02), Low-A Kane County Cougars (2003-07), Double-A Midland RockHounds (2008-19), the Arizona Fall League's Phoenix Desert Dogs (2008), and the Triple-A Las Vegas Aviators (2022). In 2021, he served as the Major League Infection and Prevention Coordinator in 2021.

Whitehouse was named the 2007 Midwest League Athletic Trainer of the Year during his time with Kane County.

During and immediately following his time as an undergraduate at Nevada, Whitehouse served as an intern with the athletic training staff of the San Francisco 49ers from May-August 1997 and 1998.

Professional memberships and certifications held by Whitehouse include: Certified Athletic Trainer. B.O.C., Nevada Licensed Athletic Trainer with Dry Needle designation, On-Base-U certified for Baseball hitting and pitching, Graston Level 1 Certified National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society, American Baseball Players Association, American Safety and Health Institute: CPR, and AED.

Whitehouse earned his B.S. in Health Education with a minor in Athletic Training from Nevada in 1998, and went on to receive a Master of Arts in Physical Education with an emphasis in Biomechanics/Athletic Training from San Diego State in 2000.
