Mackay Stadium Renovation

2020

Shortly after the conclusion of the 2019 season, a construction project began at Mackay Stadium to make necessary accessibility design changes at the stadium. The project, which is expected to be completed this summer before the start of the 2020 season, will resolve issues related to accessible seating in the stadium and ensure the stadium meets or exceeds the number of compliant accessible seats required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The project will also have an impact on some sections of non-ADA seating at the stadium, including changes in the number of loge boxes, club seats, chairback seats and bleacher seats in parts of the stadium where seating is reconfigured to provide unblocked sightlines for all patrons.

Season-ticketholders who have been displaced because of these changes will have first choice of selecting new seats. After all displaced accounts have selected seats, we will send out renewals to all season-ticketholders. We will use the annual select-a-seat process to allow fans to select, add or adjust their seats. Similar to previous seasons, the select-a-seat process will be in priority point rank order. This order will determine someone’s selection date/time.

We’ve created this list of FAQs to help everyone better understand the project and the changes at Mackay Stadium. If you need further information, please contact your account representative (list below).

There are no renderings available at this time. However, updates and photo galleries related to the project will be posted soon at NevadaWolfPack.com.

What is the scope of the project?
East-side suites: Necessary accessibility design changes will be made, including widening of entry doors and expansion of outdoor patio area.
Loge: Loges boxes on the west side will be moved closer to the field and reconfigured to allow for greater wheelchair access. The project will see a reduction in the overall number of loge boxes at Mackay.
Club seats: The renovation will see the addition of 132 club seats across the west side of the stadium from section B to section F.
West-side suites: There are no construction-related projects to this location.
Basin Street Club: There are no construction-related projects to this location.
East-side and West-side Sections: The renovation project will remove a couple of rows at the top of each section. Accordingly, this will shift season-ticketholders down. For example, if you had season tickets in section I in row 23, your seats may now be in row 21.
Section A: No changes.
Section B: Loge boxes, Club Seats, and chairback seating configurations revised to create extended loge and ADA arrangements providing unblocked sightline requirements for ADA designed spaces. This includes the removal of four rows of chairback seating.

How many ADA seats are being added?
None within the seating bowl of the stadium. Existing seats within the bowl, primarily consisting of those seats currently located at the lower east side stadium seating platforms, are being redistributed throughout the stadium. Those seats are not being removed, however, they will not be available for sale for football games nor included in seating counts for determining accessible seating requirement.
Based on the size of Mackay Stadium, the required number of ADA seats is 136. After completion of this project there will be 138 accessible seats along with 138 companion seats.

Where are they being added?
The redistributed seats will increase the number of seats in the north end zone section by 10 ADA seats, it will increase the south end zone section by two ADA seats, and it will increase the west-side ADA seat locations by 11.

Are there any other accessibility additions at Mackay?
All of the loge boxes are being redesigned to meet ADA accessibility guidelines. The two existing ADA access ramps to the north and south end zone bleacher sections will be reconstructed.
The east-side suites will receive necessary redesign for accessibility, including widening of entry doors and expansion of outdoor patio area.

Where are the nearest handicap parking locations in relation to ADA seating?
Additional accessible parking on gamedays will be available just north of the stadium with accessible pathways leading to both the Jensen Plaza entrance and the northeast entrance to Mackay Stadium
We are also developing a Gameday parking map with all parking availability for the 2020 season. For now, please reference the University’s map: https://www.unr.edu/main/images/divisions/administration-finance/parking-services/images/campus-disability-access.jpg

What is the pricing structure for the new ADA seating?
The athletics department is still finalizing pricing for the 2020 season.

What is the process for selling the ADA seats? Who gets first chance at picking seats for season tickets?
Season-ticketholders who have been displaced (including those located in accessible seats) will have first choice of selecting new seats (ADA seating or not). Current season-ticketholders who are being displaced by these changes will be contacted personally by an account services representative.

Are prices changing in any of the areas affected by this project or elsewhere in the stadium?
The athletics department is still finalizing pricing for the 2020 season.

What is the process for accommodating season-ticketholders who are displaced or affected by some of these changes?
Season-ticketholders who have been displaced will have first choice of selecting new seats. Current season-ticketholders who are being displaced by these changes will be contacted personally by an account services representative.

Who is paying for these latest renovations?
The Board of Regents approved financing for the renovation project in 2019. Any recovery from the lawsuit related to previous renovation projects at the stadium will be first applied to repayment of that financing. However until the litigation is successfully resolved, and should the University recover an amount that is less than this outstanding debt, the primary source of repayment of that funding will be Athletics ticket sales.

What’s the status of a potential lawsuit related to previous projects?
The litigation is currently pending.
