For it being the first month of summer, June was a busy, busy month for Wolf Pack athletics. With two major professional drafts, the NCAA track championships and the official establishment of the men's cross country team, the news and moments never stopped.
JUNE 4
Nevada baseball saw three players selected in this year's draft, and two more sign afterward. Grant Ford, who went in the fifth round, was the highest Wolf Pack selection since 2013. All of the announcements combined for a huge spike in numbers on Twitter, where graphics were posted live. Twitter alone accounted for 120,500 impressions, 301 retweets and 1,550 likes.
JUNE 5-9
Nevada track & field sophomore Nicola Ader became the most decorated athlete in program history, picking up three All-American honors at this year's NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, bringing her career total to four honors. No track & field athlete had earned more than two in a career.
JUNE 6
The path to a fourth consecutive Mountain West Championship for the men and the conference slate for another run in the tournament for the women were laid out for the Nevada basketball teams this month. Fans balked at the idea of only one matchup this year with Fresno State and Utah State.
JUNE 11
Nevada lost one of its own this month with the passing of longtime football coach Mike Bradeson. Former players and fellow coaches reached out in an outpour of memories, well wishes and notes about how Coach Brad had impacted their life with hundreds of replies and comments on social media.
JUNE 14
Keeping up with a great tradition, Nevada Athletics named its top two seniors, earning the Doc Martie and Rush Russell awards. This year's honors went to football's Malik Reed and swim & dives Rebecca Murray.
JUNE 14
Following the announcement of a men's cross country team, women's head coach Kirk Elias was announced as the head coach for both teams. For the first time in years, Nevada will enter a cross country season with two squads as the program looks to build on an up year in 2018.
JUNE 17
Showing fans are still incredibly excited about Nevada basketball following a coaching change, the first day of practice got lots of attention, garnishing 50 retweets, 381 likes and 10,000 views on Twitter alone. The piece also picked up an additional 4,000 views on Facebook and Instagram.
JUNE 18
It was announced that one of our own, recent soccer grad Analyse Talavera, would be a contestant on this summer's season of CBS' Big Brother!
JUNE 20-21
There will be two more familiar faces in Summer League (and beyond) rosters this year. With the 36th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, the Charlotte Hornets decided to bring Cody Martin home to futher his basketball career. The following morning, Jordan Caroline was picked up by the LA Lakers as an undrafted free agent. The two announcement posts combined for more than 750 retweets on Twitter, 310,000 impressions across all three channels and 3,000 total likes.
JUNE 21
We asked fans, without looking at anyone else's answers, to share their favorite moment. The tweet was a hit as it went along with a national trend of similar posts, garnishing a ton of awesome responses. The 2010 Boise State football game and 2018 Cincinnatti basketball game were both big hits.
JUNE 24
2019 will see the return of the a home volleyball tournament as we're set to host the Nevada Invitational this season. The full 2019 slate, including our Mountain West matchups, was announved on June 24.
