September was a month of new. New Hall of Famers, new teams ending the offseason and a new hire in the department. There was lots to talk about from football to basketball to our fall olympic sports seeing success. Without further ado, let's take a look back on September.
SEPTEMBER 2/3
We started the month off continuing to capitalize on our big win over Purdue, with awards handed out and special, extended video pieces. All were well received and we continued to rack up millions of views on posts related to the game.
SEPTEMBER 10
Sam Harned came out of the gates hot, secuting his first ever collegiate title. The posts, which received department account attention, all performed higher than normal for men's golf and brought great attention to the program.
SEPTEMBER 12
We made department history this year when we celebrated 100 years of women's athletics at Nevada with our first ever all-female Hall of Fame class. Nine difference-makers were inducted on September 12 in front of a full Reno Ballroom, and later celebrated at halftime of the football game vs. Weber State.
SEPTEMBER 16
Setting up for what has been a very succesful campaign thusfar, Kayla Afoa led the Nevada volleyball squad to a sweep at the Portland State tournament. Her performance earned her All-Mountain West honors and helped the Wolf Pack to a 10-2 start in nonconference play.
SEPTEMBER 21
Nevada athletics named a new head to our fundraising arm, welcoming Craig Fink to head up our development office.
SEPTEMBER 23
Much to the pleasure of our fans, blue pants for the homecoming game were unveiled. The video garnished 15,000 views across Twitter and Instagram, getting our fans excited for a traditional game.
SEPTEMBER 23
For the first time in eight years, the Nevada men's golf team hosted a home event! The team faced off in a duel against Oregon State and, although they fell just short, it was a great day out at Montreux.
SEPTEMBER 23
The women's basketball squad transitioned from summer and fall workouts into the season with the first official day of practice. The team has a lot of newcomers to work in, and will look to surprise the conference in the new season.
SEPTEMBER 27
The men's official start quickly followed, as a new coach now gets full time with a new team, coming off a third straight Mountain West title.
SEPTEMBER 29
Nevada soccer picked up its first conference win of the season against Utah State to close out September competition. After a narrow, one-goal loss to Boise State Friday, freshman Gabby Brown scored her second goal of the week to clinch the 1-0 OT victory over the Aggies.
