As basketball season opens up this weekend for the Nevada athletics department, the Wolf Pack is reminding fans of the new clear bag policy in effect in athletics venues this season.
In an effort to provide a safer environment for the public, and to expedite entry into the venue, Nevada's new policy does clarify and limit the size and type of bag allowed for Nevada athletics venues, including Lawlor Events Center for the upcoming basketball seasons. Approved bags include:
• Clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC tote bags that do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12".
• One-gallon clear plastic storage bags.
• Small Clutch Purses 4.5" X 6.5" or smaller
An exception will be made for medically necessary items and diaper bags after proper inspection. These bags will be tagged to inform venue security that the bag has been cleared by the gate inspection member and to limit any disturbance to the patron once inside the stadium.
The highly anticipated Wolf Pack basketball season begins Sunday afternoon with the Nevada men's team takes on Washington in an exhibition game at Lawlor Events Center. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
Sunday's exhibition game is for charity with all proceeds being donated to victims of the Carr Fire in Northern California this summer. Tickets are $15 for adults at $10 for children and seniors. All seating for the game is general admission, and there is no reserved parking for this game.
The men's team regular season opens Nov. 6 against BYU at Lawlor. The Pack women's team, which will not have an exhibition game this season, opens the year Nov. 7 at home against Utah.
Prohibited bags include, but not limited to: backpacks, camera cases, luggage, tinted plastic bags, mesh bags, oversized purses, or any bag larger than the permissible size.
This new policy is in-line with protocols at many concert venues and professional and college sports stadiums and arenas. The athletics department's event management division continues to review its policies to enhance public safety and improve efficiency in crowd flow. Limiting the size and style of bags carried into our venues will help maintain a safe and secure environment for our fans, staff, and players.
Clear bags allow our guest services and security staff to do a quick visual look at the contents of the bag without having to have the guest stop and open the bag. This policy will allow us to quickly identify and prohibit entry of any prohibited items.
Each patron (including children) will be allowed one clear bag (12" x 6" x 12" or 1 gallon storage bag) in addition to a small clutch. Other permissible items, such as small cameras, binoculars, smart phones, seat backs, and blankets can also be carried into the athletic venue, either on their own or in a clear plastic storage bag.
While any clear bag meeting the above standards is allowed, official clear bags are also available for purchase at Silver and Blue Outfitters, the official merchandiser of Wolf Pack athletics.
